Virginie Giroux

Virginie is currently the Director of HTA Strategy & Policy within the International Access department at Merck. Virginie started her career as a consultant, where she spent 5 years learning about the pharmaceutical industry in Canada. She joined Merck Canada in March 2009 as a health economist and has since held various positions within the Patient Access department, progressively taking on more responsibilities. Her more recent role was Director of HEOR in Canada, where she led the team developing economic evidence and evaluations for Health Technology Assessment agencies and payors in the country. She was also responsible for the development and execution of local value evidence generation strategies in support of policy and patient access.  

Her extensive involvement within the Canadian industry association demonstrates her commitment to advancing healthcare initiatives in the country. She has served as an industry representative on the RWE Steering Committee and on the Post-Marketing Drug Evaluation (PMDE) Advisory Committee since until both committees were sunset. Her expertise has led her to be selected as the industry leader of the PMDE Industry Task Force, which was tasked with identifying opportunities and addressing hurdles pertaining to the utilization of industry Real-World Data/Real-World Evidence in this CDA program. Virginie now serves as a global industry representative on the HTAi Policy Forum Advisory Committee (PFAC). She is also a Board Member of the Canadian Association for Healthcare Reimbursement, a not-for-profit association that organizes educational events and networking opportunities for its members. 

Virginie holds a Bachelor of Business Administration from H.E.C. Montréal, and a Masters of Science in Economic Sciences from Université de Montréal.
